The new Onix frameset was completely redesigned for the 2009 model year - but rather confusingly shares a name with the Vuelta featured above and which continued to be manufactured as a current model throughout 2009!
The new Onix inherits a number of features from the range topping Orca - not least of which is the ultra stylish appearance of the frameset, along with design touches that are both effective and attractive, such as the lightweight polished dropouts, integrated head badge and cable guides, and fork geometry.
The brief for Orbea in developing the new Onix was to design a blend of tube shapes, geometry and materials that delivers a sportive specific riding experience, combining a forgiving ride with stable handling and a fast ride. And they have succeeded - the Onix is an ideal all day machine that is a joy to ride and be seen on!
The frame is a monocoque structure using T700 carbon fibre that guarantees the performance of the frame with a perfect finish and great strength. Like the Orca, the Onix uses what they term "Size Specific Nerve" technology (or SSN) - in plain language this means that the tube diameters and carbon laminate layers vary with frame size to ensure that the riding experience remains the same throughout the size range
