Portugal rider upsets big named uphill finishers

Stirling’s uphill finish was always set to produce a thrilling finish to stage three, but nobody predicted Portugal’s Manuel Cardoso (Footon Servetto) would out-pace big-named riders to win the stage. Cardoso, wearing the national road champion colours of his homeland, held off Grand Tour big guns Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne) and Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team) to win the stage.
