Travis Meyer (Garmin-Transitions) broke away on the final lap of the Australian elite men’s road race, finishing 31 seconds ahead of breakaway rival David Kemp (Fly V Australia). Meyer was surprised to win the race, with the first lap breakaway of 10 riders being given too much latitude by the peloton, which couldn’t catch the bunch over the closing laps.
