The company was founded by the absolute drive to build a great light that could light up a reef 200 feet below the surface. That was 1989. Since then they have pioneered HID lights with even beam patterns that became the industry standard for underwater imaging. In 2007, they introduced the most powerful underwater video lights on the market, also powered by LEDs. They have applied our know-how to building great bike lights.

Living and working at the edge of the sea in Monterey, California, they are proud to enable human powered adventure from our extensive marine sanctuary to the majestic trails of Big Sur and the Santa Cruz mountains.

Light and Motion exists because of its staff. They are a remarkable group that has pushed the company forward with relentless energy and enthusiasm. Together they have vertically integrated the business to allow better quality control when the trend is to go “offshore.” They have pushed thier local suppliers to be best in class to allow them to build here, keep thier carbon footprint small, and keep thier team close to our product. They believe these things matter.

Being a small business in the global economy is no easy task. But others have noticed thier persistent innovation and idealism reflected in thier business practices. They were recognized by Monterey Country for its “Green Business Award”. They were awarded the California WRAP (waste reduction award program) Award, and they received the California Small Business of the Year award for 2008.
