At 604 grams for the rear and 1081 grams for the pair, the Zipp 202 is the ultimate climbing wheel. They are a pound lighter than a typical high-end racing wheelset and provide anyone using them an almost unfair advantage to float up the hills. We have used Zipp 202s to build a sub-13 pound Cervelo R3SL. Anyone putting together an ultra lightweight road bike will likely be slapping on a pair of Zipp 202s.
The Zipp 202 wheel is engineered to do more than fly up climbs unlike other "climbing only" wheels. It is built to be stiff enough for the trickiest descents and rapid accelerations. The Zipp 202 employs Carbon Bridge™ technology which uses Kevlar in the tire bed area making the rim much more impact resistant. Zipp 202 wheels have been used successfully on the cobbles of Paris Roubaix and are more than tough enough for criteriums.
In addition to fantastic climbing performance, the Zipp 202 features wind-tunnel designed aerodynamics and VCLC™ technology for improved ride quality. New, third generation ABLC™ dimples allow the 32mm 202 rim to perform more efficiently on the flats than most 46-50mm deep rims. Between layers of carbon lies Zipp's VCLC system, which uses a shock-absorbing material to reduce vibration by 10%. The VCLC system also helps to keep your wheels glued to the pavement under all conditions.
